While Pete's OpenGL2 2.9 is the most accurate GPU plugin, it is missing many features and those are what PeteOpenGL2Tweak adds; most notably the ability to render at resolutions higher than 1280x960, but it also adds GTE accuracy, proper aspect correction, true vsync, and xBRZ texture scaling. Many hardcore retro gamers try to play most of their games on the original gaming hardware for the most authentic and enjoyable experience. However, the original Playstation is one of the consoles that most definitely prefer playing via an emulator. One of primary reasons I use ePSXe to emulate PS1 games is the amazing graphical options it provides via plugins.

What Can These Plugins Do?

Without getting too technical, most of these ePSXe plugins will make some of the PS1 games look nearly as good as an early Dreamcast or PS2 game (especially those Playstation Games That Pushed The Limits of the system) . These improvements are usually made by enhancing the 3D model textures and using anti-aliasing techniques to smoothen the rough edges of the polygons. Here are some great examples of enhances screenshots (click to enlarge) …

What Plugin to Use?

There are a number of graphical plugins available for ePSXe, but for most modern PCs, you’ll want to go with Pete’s plugin, which has been around for quite a while, but it always being improved. Our resident emulation enhancement specialist, Mozgus, has these words of advice:

Psx Gpu Plugin

“For most 3D PS1 games, you want to use ePSXe, with the newest Pete’s OpenGL2, and Eternal’s sound plugin. From there, study each setting to better understand which ones are appropriate for which games. ” He also noted that “OpenGL2 is aimed at very good video cards like Geforce 7 or Radeon X1K series and up… Those with weaker video cards should use Pete’s OpenGL plugin (not OpenGL2). Those with no video card should seek a software mode plugin.”

What Settings Are Best?

Since the options screen on these graphical plugins are filled with lots of technical terms and can be a bit intimidating, I asked Mozgus to provide us with the following screenshot of his typical settings…

He said that he typically uses these settings for most of his games, but “there might be one or two small changes… Also, sometimes theres option you should enable under the “special game fixes …” button.”

Don’t Forget Custom Shaders

There are also some other add-ons known as shaders that can give some very interesting graphical effects. Mozgus likes the Natural Vision shader, because it strengthens colors, anti-aliases the image, and adds a nice blur that hides numerous PS1 visual flaws which high resolutions will not heal alone. Note that the Shader Level controls the blur amount for the given resolution. If the level is too high and the resolution is too low, the picture will be blurred too much. This shader arguably provides an overall pleasing look for every game out there. The set of filters and related information can be found at this phenominal thread at NGEmu.

To get your imaginations wandering, here are some samples of what other custom shaders can do…

Pretty Cool, Huh?

Of course, there are additional tweaks you can do for certain games to make them look extra special, but these settings should definitely get you started in the right direction. Pc optimizer pro serial keygen download safe mode.

List of PlayStation 1 emulator plugins. See Recommended PS1 Plugins for what's recommended.

Video[edit]

  • PEOPS OpenGL 1.78 - Comes with PCSX-R. Has an anti-jitter function labeled 'GTE accuracy', and allows driver-forced AA. Despite being open source this plugin wasn't updated for years either and has inferior feature set compared to OpenGL2, gpuBladeSoft and even GSDX.
  • Pete's OpenGL2 2.9[1] - More accurate and compatible than OpenGL 1.78.[citation needed] It allows you to set a custom rendering resolution for within the fullscreen box, aka window resolution and has support for shaders. Unfortunately this plugin is closed source and wasn't updated for years.
  • PeteOpenGL2Tweak[2]-PeteOpenGL2Tweak is a PSEMU Pro compatible plug-in that patches PeteOpenGL2 plugin on runtime and adds GTE Accuracy hack.
  • Edgbla's gpuBladeSoft 1.42a[3][4]-Very accurate and has a lot of options for enhancements and shaders, but renders everything on CPU so can be very demanding at high resolutions. Fairly buggy past native rendering resolution as well, with texture misalignment issues and whatnot. Its same as Pete's OpenGL2 closed source and wasn't updated for years. But there is some hope author will release new version[5].
  • GSDX: GSDX development is primarily focused on PCSX2 but can also be used in PSX mode. Its limited to software rendering and has inferior feature set compared to PCSX2 mode but its notable for being only open source PSX plugin which can increase internal resolution. So there is hope for improvement if PCSX2 developers ever decide to emulate PSX in PCSX2.
  • GSDX 0.1.16- A more recent version of the GSDX rendering plugin, GSDX uses DirectX and is currently able to utilize DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 APIs, supports the use of external fx shaders with a wide range of improvements, recent versions of the shaders may not be compatible with all graphics cards. GSDX 0.1.16 needs a considerable amount of configuration, it has jittering problems, and it must use synchronized audio in order to run at a stable speed.
  • Modified PEOp.S. Soft GPU Plugin with Zenju's xBRZ filter.[6][7][8]
  • New PSX GPU Plugin AmiDog[9] its again closed source.
  • Lewpy's Glide 1.42 - for 3DFX cards.

Audio[edit]

  • P.E.Op.S 1.10 beta - Recommended for most games and setups (in order to use turbo, the mode needs to be set to 2: Async Simple; it will not work with 3 or 4).
  • Eternal SPU 1.5 - Useful for the few games/PCs that have issues with P.EOp.S.
  • spuPeopsSound (XAudio2 fix for PEC) v1.10[11][12][13]

Input[edit]

  • LilyPad latest SVN (The plugin comes with PCSX2, go into the plugin folder and pull out the file that says lilypad.dll and put it in the emulator your plan on using's plugin folder). Set keyboard input to raw also, otherwise you wont be able to use hotkeys.
  • Pokopom XInput Pad Plugin Meant for DualShock controllers running under SCP server or a similar XInput wrapper. This is a great, light-weight plugin with a lot of options, such as the ability to switch the bindings of the cross and circle buttons around for Japanese imports. It doesn't have any button binding options, but since it's meant for mapping an emulated DualShock controller to an actual DualShock controller, you don't really need to rebind anything. You can also edit the analog stick deadzones, which many PSX input plugins don't let you do. Also, it supports PCSX2. If you have a DualShock controller running under an XInput wrapper, this is really the best plugin without a doubt.

Use the following if you're using a PS3 controller:

Pete S Opengl2 Driver 2 9 Missing Render Texture Extension

  • LilyPad-SCP (Comes with the SCP driver, which is a very nice alternative to MalwareohJoin)
  • LilyPad-MalwareohJoy (if you've a DS3 and are using MoJ)

This pack has preconfigured versions of both the regular and SCP versions of LilyPad:
